The popular Swedish tv-program Bingolotto was celebrating 20 years last weekend, and Marie was there to celebrate. She performed the christmas song “Put a little love in your heart” together with Elisabeth Andreassen and a gospel choir.

1- Jessica from Spain & Rodolfo from Chile: When will you be back?
That’s a difficult question to answer. I am writing music currently and I have an idea and a plan to try to record it this year. It always takes longer than you think it will. The last album was supposed to be done in the beginning of 2007 but wasn’t really finished until late 2008. So my answer is, I don’t know. I’m working on it. I am really happy with the music that I am writing currently and I hope you will like it too.

2- Thomas from Germany & Jose from Mexico: What is planned for 2011?
I am currently running the family company. We work with a toxic free flame retardant plastic. It is very different from what I’ve done before but it is also very fulfilling. It’s very challenging intellectually and extremely exiting to actually do something that will make a difference once it works. We want to replace persistent chemicals like bromine and antimony for instance. Very much inline with the Stockholm convention (read more at http://chm.pops.int/). And then as I said I am writing and have a plan to start recording another album.

3- Leonardo from Sweden & Camilo from Chile: Are you working on a new project?

4- Marina from Argentina: Can you share something about it with us?
It is very much in the same vibe as the last project as far as the songwriting goes. But I want this one to have a very specific sound to it. I am trying to find a balance between acoustic elements and electronic. I am pretty excited about some of the melodies that I have and I think that it will be a great album. I’m still looking for that perfect balance though.

5- Thomas from Germany: Who are you working with? (producers/musicians/songwriters)
I am currently working alone actually. I want to find someone eventually. I’m thinking about some really talented Norwegian producers and there is also some people in Sweden that could be interesting. But we’ll see.

6- Thomas from Germany: Will you release a new single soon?
No unfortunately not. It will happen but not soon.

7- Leonardo from Sweden, Dicky from Indonesia & Paulina from Mexico: Will you release a new album later this year?
No that will take longer than that. Writing, producing and getting all the other stuff done takes time…

8- Lucia from Uruguay: Would you like to try new styles? (swing/salsa/tango)
Well I haven’t thought of those styles but there is definitely going to be a new sound to the new stuff.

9- Marina from Argentina: Who have been the biggest influences in your musical career?
That’s a difficult question there are a number. I think that Freddie Mercury (Queen) and Michael Jackson are going to be some of the most important bands. But then there is of course ABBA and The Cure for songwriting. Ryan Adams for presence. Newer Swedish music I really like is Daniel Adams Ray, Robyn and Oscar Lindros. There is a lot of interesting things going on in the music business right now. Other bands that I think that have been really creative lately is Jónsi, Ramona Falls, Miike Snow and a bunch more. I love music. I listen to it all the time, everything from the really poppy stuff to more rocky stuff. What triggers me is always a good melody and an involved singer with a lot of commitment.

10- Marina from Argentina: How is a day in the studio? How does the process of recording alone compare to recording with three other people?
A day in the studio varies. If I’m writing it’s mostly loose. Just playing a lot and trying to figure stuff out. Normally there are a lot of breaks until you get a good idea and that’s when work gets intense. Producing is hard work. It is more like the handicraft of it. You need to be creative but there is also a feeling of getting the work done. You just put down vocals and build the track and the sound. Try to find fun things to do with the song you wrote. Think it through and figure out how to make it better.
Mixing is something you need to pay a lot of attention to. It is a level of detail that is just insane. I’m not patient enough for that. There needs to be a balance between perfection and feeling. That is very hard to achieve. Those days are normally really focused but not that long.

I can’t compare it to before. Before we were the singers more than anything. This time around I’m the project leader and I have final say and opinions in everything. That just can’t be compared.

11- Camilo from Chile & Jose from Mexico: Where do you get inspiration to write your songs?
Everywhere. Mostly relationships and interesting stories that I encounter in my everyday life. I will need to feel something or experience something and then let it sink in for a while. I hardly ever write songs while I’m in the middle of chaos, these things normally turn into songs after a while.

12- Belinda from Germany & Thomas from Germany: Are you writing new songs?

13- Marina from Argentina: Some time ago you uploaded some songs (“Songwriting Demos”) that didn’t make it to the album. Are any of those songs going to be part of your new album?
I don’t think so. Or they might. I haven’t decided yet. Those songs are songs I really like but it depends on what else I can come up with. What do you think?

14- Marina from Argentina: Once you have new demos: Will you upload them to your website?
Yes. Eventually. I mean I will have to keep some stuff secret so that it’s exciting for you too right ☺.

15- Rodolfo from Chile, Nicolas from Argentina & Leonardo from Sweden: Have you ever thought of recording songs in Spanish? And Swedish?
Swedish Yes, that’s actually something I’m experimenting with now. Spanish… well I would if I got another big international release. We’ll see there might be some way to make that happen.

16- Marina from Argentina & Rodolfo from Chile: What is your favorite song from your album? And why?
That is a difficult question I of course love them all in their own regard. This album was a big experiment for me and the songs that I included are ones that I have been living with for a long time. They are part of me, which you can also hear in the lyrics they are all safe-lived. One that I do like a lot is the last track on the album “The One To Fall” but that is due to the production. Johan who is playing guitar on it just came in the studio and performed. He was amazing. All the little tracks and the building around it and the details were fantastic. But I wouldn’t call it my favorite just another one that I like a lot.

17- Marina from Argentina: How did you come up with the name of your album “Songs In A Key Of Mine”?
It is actually a play off from the famous album “Songs In The Key Of Life” by Stevie. I mean I was only 25 when it got out and I don’t think that I was quite ready to write songs in the key of life. And secondly it was very literal. I mean the A*teens stuff was hardly ever in my key. And the fact that I could do things my way and write lyrics that I could relate to etc. It was just my way of expressing that I finally got to do things exactly the way I wanted.

18- Marina from Argentina: How would you describe your album?
I try not to. I know what my album was to me which was a process of healing and proving to myself that I could do it, I have no idea what it is to anyone else. I do hope that it leaves you with a good feeling after having listened to it.

19- Leonardo from Sweden: You said once that your album didn’t sale as much you wanted and expected, but haven’t you thought that the album could have been a success abroad? You have so many fans world-wide, in countries such as: Argentina, Chile, Mexico. Many Swedish artists succeed abroad first and then in Sweden. e.g.: September.
That is a possibility. There was so many thing that were on my mind at that time and I didn’t ever really investigate the possibility of going abroad with it. I have had some fantastic people help me out like Marina and Maria and Timea from Hungary who have tested the markets a little bit but I have never been able to roll it out on a bigger scale. Maybe that is something we should try with my new stuff… when I let go of my perfection enough to get it off my harddrive and onto the internet ☺.

20- Marina from Argentina: How was shooting a music video by yourself? Did you have fun shooting both videos? Which one is your favorite?
I loved it. Both in their own right.
My Elysium was a very intimate thing and my friends shot it for me. It was more just piled up documentary footage, we went to new york for fun and they shot some stuff and then I had a concert that was awesome, we did my Elysium like 3 times so that we could get all the shots we wanted.
Then with Judge you I worked with some young ambitious guys who were just awesome. Got the whole idea together and auditioned for an actress. Susanne later got her break in PUSS this summer here in Sweden. She is great. The scenes when she is crying and being mad at me had me actually just wanting to take care of her and make sure she was ok… or not when she was mad at me at that point I just wanted to run. She’s such a great actress and guided me through it, almost made even me look believable. There were moments through that video shoot though when the whole crew was like “ok this is too hard, let’s go take a break” everybody was going through their own last breakup in their head. Love the video though.

21- Rodolfo from Chile, Nicolas from Argentina & Jose from Mexico: Would you like to do a duet song with any of your ex bandmates?
No I don’t think so. I have a very different idea of where I want to go with my music which shows in our different projects.

22- Leonardo from Sweden: Which artist/s would you like to do a duet with?
Oh there are so many. If there could be one of all time it has to be Freddie Mercury. He is awesome. Right now I really like Daniel Adams Ray out of the Swedish bands. Or actually Bon Iver or someone arty like that. I just don’t know if I could keep up. There are so many. I have always wanted to do a collaboration with someone. I think I might try it too at some point. We’ll see.

23- Leonardo from Sweden: Which Swedish artist/s would you like to do a duet with?
Daniel Adams Ray would be interesting, or Robyn (but then so does everybody else want to). Actually there is a girl called Edith Backlund that I met a bunch of years ago that would be interesting to do something with. She has an amazing voice.

24- Leonardo from Sweden & Rodolfo from Chile: Would you like to participate in Melodifestivalen? (ESC)
Hard to answer. But I don’t think so. I think that is something that the time will have to tell.

25- Belinda from Germany: Which was the best moment of your career?
That is a difficult question. My own album release was the most important moment for me. I think it is yet to come to be honest.

26- Jose from Mexico: What happened to your website? When will it be updated?
I’m sorry about that. There is just so much else. And being the MD of the family company takes up a lot of time. I’m just grateful Marina is helping me out with the FB fan page and the Youtube channel. That is awesome. I will shape it up again for the next release. But it might be a while.

27- Marina from Argentina: Will you start blogging any time soon?
Is that something you guys would like to read? Well it’d concern a bunch of other matters than music. Actually the reason I am not doing it is time. I have a secret blog that I use for practicing but I always do it for like a month and then feel like I run out of things to say. I guess at the end of the day I rather take in knowledge than try to impose my opinions on everybody else. There are blogs that I really appreciate but most of the time I feel like we are living in a world where everybody is shouting and nobody is listening. I end up in a “what’s the point”-feeling and that’s when I stop blogging.
I’ll turn that question what would you want me blogging about? ☺

28- Leonardo from Sweden: What do think about your time in A-Teens? And how do you live with it now?
It was awesome. It was hard. It is the best thing I have ever done. It taught me everything. It left me with nothing. A*teens is something I loved. I hated that it ended and that it ended the way it did but I also feel and felt that I was done with it in the form it was. The time in a-teens is (thanks to you all guys) something that I remember and cherish more than anything. It might very well be the most successful and fun thing that I participate in in my life.
iA-teens now is something that I did. It does not define me anymore. It did for a while. It is a part of me that I cherish and experiences that I draw on at least every week. I learned so much there. The backside of it was just when we got out of the band, I had a lot of issues that I had to deal with and also went to therapy for a while but that is in the past now and I have emerge a stronger person. Also the fact that A-teens enabled me to make my own album, that would never have happened otherwise. That was important. As I said. Songs in a Key of mine was a healing process and a challenge that sort of put me back together again.

29- Jessica from Spain, Jose from Mexico & Lucia from Uruguay: Will you promote your first or upcoming album in Europe? South America?
We will see. I think I will work quite differently with the new material coming out and I will try to make it at least one lap around the world regardless of how much it sells. That is my goal any ways.

30- Rodolfo from Chile, Caio from Brazil, Aarif from Malaysia & Paulina from Mexico: Would you like to come back to Chile? Brazil? Malaysia? Mexico?
I loved Latin America. I am coming back. And when I am I will bring a piano and my skis.

Finally I just wanted to thank you guys for the support. You are awesome. You are so patient. I am sorry I am being difficult and taking forever between times when I am in touch. I appreciate the things you do for me and I love that you listen to music. I hope that music gives you something!

Here’s a short summery of the interview:
- She says that she likes being up there in Kaknästornet where the interview is. She especially likes the sun because you can’t see the sun that often in Sweden during the winter. She always try to travel atleast one time every winter to get some sun.
- She was really surprised that her song was picked for Melodifestivalen. Thousands of songs are sent it, and they decided to pick hers.
- She thinks it’s fantastic that Marie also is a part of Melodifestivalen this year. It’s gonna be like a reunion, cuz they haven’t been working together for a very long time. Maybe Marie will give her some tips, since she was competing in 2008.
- We won’t see Sara as we’re used to. Much has happen since A-Teens.
- She will use all the experience she got with A-Teens, with media and stuff. She’s used to chaos and she’s prepared for it.
- Will she make it to the final in the Globe (which they can see from the window)? Well, she hopes so and it’s her goal. She believes in the song and think she can make it if she do a good performance.

Melodifestivalen 2011: Our chat with Sara Lumholdt!

Last month we met Sara Lumholdt for a talk about her forthcoming debut in Melodifestivalen next month. And we’re not embarrassed to admit that she totally brought out the squealing childhood fanboy in us. C’mon – she was an ACTUAL A*TEEN!

So we were delighted to see that she was more than happy to talk about her time in the band, and about a possible reunion for them one day. We could tell that she really does have fond memories of her time in A*Teens, and also towards her former bandmates too, something we’d thought wouldn’t be the case – either because of what we’ve read in the Swedish press, or perhaps our own pre-conceptions of what sort of situation actually exists amongst them.

Naturally though, first and foremost, we spoke about her Melodifestivalen entry, ‘Enemy’. It’s clearly going to be a corker, as it’s been composed by Anton from Le Kid, and Niclas Lundin. And we also wanted to ask what we can expect from her after the competition, and what sort of sound she’s developed for herself after all these years out of the spotlight.

And here’s what she said;

scandipop: Ah Sara!!!

Sara: Yes!

scandipop: We loved you in A*Teens. And even though we’ve heard some solo music from you before, the songs that you’d uploaded to your myspace page, Melodifestivalen does feel like your proper launch as a solo artist. Would you agree?

Sara: Yes, definitely. I had a few years where I was trying different stuff along the way, but I think now it’s a lot more solid, and I’ve had a couple of years to grow. I tried being an acoustic singer/songwriter, and I tried to be all crazy dance/pop. And I figured that I wanna be an entertainer, I AM an entertainer, that’s what I do, and I decided that I wanna have danceable music but to find something different. And I’ve been trying to find that for the last year. So this song was actually written for me. And when we recorded it, it was great. And so we finally found the sound to the record! So it’s great that it actually ended up in Melodifestivalen, ha ha!!! It was really wow!

scandipop: Yeah it’s the best launch to have for a pop artist isn’t it?

Sara: Yes, definitely.

scandipop: Ah ok. So to your fans who’ve wondered what you’ve been doing all these years, the answer is that you’ve been trying different things musically, and creating your own sound.

Sara: Definitely, and growing as a person too. I’ve been writing a lot of music in LA for two years, going back and forth. And I’ve not only evolved as an artist, but I’ve also found myself along the way.

scandipop: And how would you describe this sound that you’ve found for yourself?

Sara: The sound is a mixture of pop, r&b, and rock. And it doesn’t really sound Swedish, it sounds more Americanised. Which I like, as it would definitely work everywhere in the world. Which is important to me because I wanna launch everywhere! Of course we’ll see what happens after this, but I’m really excited.

scandipop: And Anton from Le Kid was involved in writing ‘Enemy’ wasn’t he?

Sara: Yes, he did. And Niclas Lundin also.

scandipop: Do you think it’s got a bit of a Le Kid touch to it? Have you heard their music?

Sara: It’s actually not at all the same sound. I’ve heard Le Kid and a lot of other songs he’s written too, and I heard the song he wrote for Le Kid in Melodifestivalen. And it’s totally different! Which is why I like him so much! As a songwriter he can do whatever, it doesn’t matter for whom. He can find different sounds, and make something different.

scandipop: Ok. And as for after Melodifestivalen, how soon will we be getting an album from you do you think?

Sara: We’ll see. We’re definitely thinking of an album, and we have a few songs that have already been written for it that we’re working on. The hardest thing about being in Melodifestivalen is then finding a second single. That’s a really big challenge as it’s the most important song. The Melodifestivalen song is really important too, but after that, you have to come up with an even better song, to pop out of the bubble. And so that’s basically what we’re working on right now.

scandipop: Oh ok. So there won’t be a single before Melodifestivalen then?

Sara: No, it’s gonna be Melodifestivalen and then following that up with different stuff.

scandipop: And what about the performance at Melodifestivalen? Because obviously to a lot of Swedes it’s going to be their introduction to Sara Lumholdt the solo artist, so you’re gonna wanna have a pretty special performance, right?

Sara: Definitely! We’re working a lot on the number. We have an idea in our heads and it’s really clear what we’re gonna do. And of course there’s gonna be dancing. I mean, I’m a dance girl! But we’re gonna try to put a new twist on it so that you haven’t seen it before. Before this Melodifestivalen. We’re gonna try to do something very different.

scandipop: Wow, sounds exciting. Ok, so now I hope you don’t mind but I REALLY REALLY wanna speak to you about A*Teens now. Even though I’m sure you’re so tired of always being asked about it.

Sara: Ha ha! Don’t worry about it, ha ha! It was a good trip!

scandipop: Good! I think a lot of pop fans still feel a certain happy nostalgia towards A*Teens and the music they released……

Sara: Definitely, yeah.

scandipop: ….and so I think that the question most people want answered, is if you think that there might ever be a reunion. Either a one off gig, or perhaps even some new music one day.

Sara: I mean, it’s not impossible. You should never say never. But I think that we need to wait a couple more years. It’s not been that long a time, so it makes sense to wait a bit longer until we come together again. But definitely yes. I have no restrictions. And I could definitely think of us doing a performance, doing our old songs, that would be fun. But not right now. Like the Backstreet Boys had a lot of years apart and then they came together. So yeah, we should wait a few more years.

scandipop: Your relationship with Marie Serneholt has been well documented in the Swedish press, and perhaps a little over dramatised. I imagine that it’s just a case of you two simply not being in contact with each other anymore, and that that there’s no more drama to it than that. Is that correct? Or is there something more to it?

Sara: Exactly, ha ha, there’s NO drama!

scandipop: And I’m sure you’ll probably be in touch with her again when you start rehearsals at the arena in Gothenburg, and she’s there. You won’t be ignoring each other.

Sara: Exactly!

scandipop: And are you in touch with the other two members of A*Teens, Dhani and Amit?

Sara: No, not really. It’s the same for everyone. I mean, I’ve run into Amit at a couple of things, but nothing more than that really. But there’s no drama. There’s more love than ever when we meet each other, because we had so much together. It’s always fun when we see each other because we go a long way back. It’s great.

scandipop: Well it’s good to hear that you think that there’s a chance that you might perform together again one day. And if you do ever perform together again, you MUST sing ‘Closer To Perfection’, it’s one of my favourite songs of all time!

Sara: Ha ha, yeah it’s a great song isn’t it?! It’s a good song. I have a lot of favourites from our old stuff, ha ha.

scandipop: It’s so nice to hear you speak fondly of your time in A*Teens. And best of luck for Melodifestivalen, and thanks for your time.

Sara Lumholdt is the girl who has sold over six million albums and toured worldwide as one of the members of the pop group A-Teens. The tours with the band included everything from being the opening act for Britney Spears and N * Sync in the U.S. to mad tours in South America.
After the group split in 2006 Sara disappeared from the spotlight. Since then she has been involved in various projects outside the music scene. Meanwhile she has been sitting in studios in Sweden and the USA to write own material.
Pressure from foreign fans for a comeback from Sara has been huge and now it’s finally time! On February 19, she stands on the Melodifestivalen stage in Linköping. It’s a new Sarah we will see. The cute shy girl from A-Teens is gone and instead a cool and confident Sara Lumholdt is here. The goal is to win back the big scenes during the year!
The entry is called “Enemy” and the songwriters are Niclas Lundin and Anton Malmberg Hård af Segerstad.

In an article right before Christmas Marie tries 10 new lipglosses and tells us which one is the best to use under the mistletoe.

On the question how she like lipgloss she says;
– I like lipglosses that’s easy to put on, like the ones with brushes. Brushes are soft for the lips and it’s easy to use them even if you don’t have a mirror. The lipgloss should also have a nice smell and I don’t like them to sticky.

After the press conference last monday, Aftonbladet posted a article and video about Sara and her act in Melodifestivalen.

In the article Sara says that she think the competition will be hard with many good artists in her semifinal, but her goal is to beat them. Her act will be expensive, and she’s looking forward to see how it turns out to be. She’s seeing a vocal coach and practice dance to make it as good as possible.

According to meeting Marie, Sara says she’s looking forward to that:

– It will be a blast to work with her again. It brightens our history that we have together. I’m happy for her, and maybe there is a reason why we meet again, says Sara.

Next Thursday (december 9th) Marie will be seen in yet another program. The program is called Leilas home delivery and is about the tv-chef and cookbok writer Leila Lindholm. Leila invites herself to a selected celebrity’s kitchen to cook. In the last episode she’s visiting Marie at Lidingö where they make apple martini, limekola and cheesecake together. Watch it at 9pm at TV4+.

At todays press conference at SVT it was relieved that Sara will compete in the third semifinal, held in Linköping at February 19th.

The other competing acts besides Sara in this semifinal is: Shirley´s Angels “I Though´t It Was Forever”, Linda Sundblad “Lucky You”, Sebastian Karlsson “No One Else Could”, Eric Saade “Popular”, Sara Varga “Spring för livet”, The Playtones “The King” and Simon Forsberg “Tid att andas”.

The top two songs in each semifinal advance to the final and those in third and fourth advance to the Second Chance round. Televoting decides the results.

The main headline of an article in Aftonbladet is Sara saying ‘’I will not wish her good luck’’, in relation to the announcement that Marie will host Melodifestivalen 2011. That quote is taken from a bigger conversation where Aftonbladet asked Sara if she would wish her luck and Sara said that she wouldn’t, but only because Marie didn’t get in touch with her when the announcement was made that Sara would be competing, as they are no longer in contact. They then brought up a quote from two years ago from Sara in which she says of Marie, ‘’I do not think she likes me. I get that feeling sometimes. Do not know why. I have been really kind and nice’’. When Marie was asked yesterday why she didn’t call to say good luck to Sara, she echoed Sara’s comment about the two of them not being in touch and that she doesn’t have her phone number, but added that it would be better to say good luck in person anyway.

Sara Lumholdt expressed her exasperation at the article today on her twitter, saying ‘’Good cop or bad cop? Whatever I say to the newspapers, I am the bad cop. Strange, that ’’. She also wrote on her Facebook “no matter what I say to the newspapers they always twist my answers. Im so happy & proud that Marie will host the melodifestival next year! just so u know! videoblog will come soon! i promise! take care ya’ll!”

It’s not the first time Marie will be presenting a TV-show. In 2009 she held the national celebration on SVT together with André Pops. She has also been one of the jury members at ”Inför Eurovision song contest” in 2009 & 2010. In Melodifestivalen 2009 she also competed as an artist with the song ”Disconnect me”.

Melodifestivalen is an annual music competition organised by Swedish public broadcasters Sveriges Television (SVT) and Sveriges Radio (SR). It determines the country’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest, and has been staged almost every year since 1959. Since 2000, the competition has been the most popular television programme in Sweden.

The semifinals will be held in February & March in cities around Sweden, and everything will be broad casted in Swedish television. We will give you more information about Sara’s participation as soon as we know more.

Där mötte vi Dhani som var i fullt sjå med att spela in något och när jag sa att jag kunde hänga runt och vara groupie sa han att det hade jag alldeles för mycket kläder för att kunna göra trovärdigt. Det tyckte jag var kul. Hoppas att Dhani gör en cool hit nu, han förtjänar det för han är en urgullig kille!
Translation: There we met Dhani, who was busy recording something and when I said I could hang around and be the groupie he said that I had way too many clothes to be able to make it trustworthy. I thought that was fun. I hope Dhani make a cool hit now, he deserves it because he is a really sweet guy!

Yes, as you might have noticed I haven’t written here lately. I have a new job and tons of dance and song practice that sucks the must out of me. I don’t have the strength to take pictures and update you on what I do and show nice clothes from the web that I want and so on. That’s simply how it is Instead I have full days of fun projects on the go, but of course (typically) that’s stuff that I can’t tell you about.

Thanks for all the nice feedback after my participation in Fångarna på Fortet. It didn’t go that well, but even though I injured myself, it was a really fun experience to be there again!

I will take a blog break now. It happens a lot of fun in my life, but I can barely write about it and that sucks for my readers. I have no energy to sit down and just write a few lines, but keep your eyes open. Soon I will release my homepage, www.saralumholdt.se, with news, blog and other fun stuff!

This fall Marie will go on tour together with the Swedish version of the musical Grease.

The story takes place in Sweden where 50 becomes 60, and things happen quickly. New music, new clothes and a giddy feeling that everything is possible. The adults can’t keep up with the young people who creates their own style and use their own language. That’s how it was for Sandy & Danny in the American original, and it’s the same for Sanna (Marie Serneholt) & Danne (Sebastian Karlsson) in the Swedish version.

The tour starts in Malmö, September 25th and ends in Linköping, October 29th. For ticets and full tourplan, see link below.

In February the Swedish version of the musical Grease sets up at Göta Lejon in Stockholm and Marie is going to play Sanna (Sandy). Danne (Danny) will be played by Sebastian Karlsson, known from the Swedish Idol.
