From an idea, to success

A-Teens started as an idea in 1997 and ended seven years later after several successes. Successes no one could ever imagine.

1997

April-May
The marketing director at Stockholm Records, Niklas Berg, gets the idea of creating a Mini-Abba.

1998

August/September
The plans of creating a child group that will sing Abba-songs is discussed between the record company Stockholm Records and the concert company EMA Telstar. Abba Kids.

September
A creator at an advertising agency phones EMA Telstar for KF’s sake. They want to do a tour, event marketing, for families. The record company gets an agreement with TV4, for a TV-Program. Abba Kids is created.

November
Stockholm Records hells three auditions at Lasse Kühlers dance school. Four people gets chosen.

December
Abba Teens, which is their current name, hits the studio.

1999

January-March
The first record is produced.

April 9th
World premier of the single “Mamma Mia” on Power Hit Radio.

April 14th
Video premier of “Mamma mia” at TV4.

April 28th
“Mamma mia” is number #1 at “Voxpop” on Swedish Television (SVT).

May 10th
The single “Mamma mia” hits the stores.

May 22th
Premier of KF:s commercial tour “En fest kommer lastad med mera”. Abba Teens is the big act.

July
Abba Teens changes their name to A-Teens because Abba is complaining.

August 25th
The album “The Abba Generation” is released.

September/October
Promotion in European countries.

October
The album has sold 1 million copies. A-Teens is number #1 in Japan.

November/December
A-Teens is having a three week tour in USA and Japan. TV4 is broadcasting their A-Teens programs.

2000

February
A-Teens is having a tour in South America and USA.

March
The album has sold 2 million copies and is number #2 on the German charts.

April 14th
Tour in USA. The single “Dancing Queen” climbs the USA-charts.

May
The album is released in USA. Tour in Asia.

July-August
A-Teens are touring in USA. Nickelodeon Tour.

October
“The Abba Generation” is selling gold in USA.

October 23rd
A-Teens is leaving Abba behind. The new single “BOUNCING (off the ceiling)” (later changed to “Upside Down”) releases for radio play in Sweden. The video is recorded in USA from October 13th – 23rd.

November 20th
“Upside Down” hits the stores in Sweden.

November 22th
“Bouncing Off The Ceiling” is debuting on Nickelodeon.

December
“Upside Down”is selling gold in Sweden.

December 12th
“Bouncing Off The Ceiling” hits the stores in USA.

2001

January
“Upside Down” reaches 2x Platinum in Sweden.

February 26th
The second album “Teen Spirit” releases in Sweden (27th is USA & Canada)

February
“Upside Down” climbs up to number #10 on the German charts.

March 12th
“Halfway Around The World” is released all over Europe. The video shoots in the end of February in Halstahammar, Sweden.

March/May
A-Teens is finally hitting UK. After performing at BBC’s “Live And Kicking”, “Upside Down” has started to make an impact on the satellite music channels. The singles releases on May 14th.

June 18th
The third single from Teen Spirit, “Sugar Rush” releases in Sweden.

June
Promotion tour in South East Asia and Japan. In Thailand, Coca-Cola signed the band to become the face of the brand, as the first international artists ever to appear on a soda can in Thailand. The cans are printed in 15 million copies.

June-August
A forty-three-date tour with Aaron Carter around the U.S

October
A-Teens are the opening act for No Angles in Germany.

October
A-Teens is recording the song “Heartbreak Lullaby” written by Cathy Dennis, for the European soundtrack of the movie “The Princess Diaries”. The video is shotted in Germany in late October.

December
Heartbreak Lullaby is released.

2002

January
A press conference is held in Stockholm with A-Teens and American rock musician Alice Cooper. The announces that they will do a collaboration recording Cooper’s classic hit, “School’s Out”. The song is recorded on January 25th in Stockholm, Sweden.

Spring
A-Teens hits the studio to recording their third album.

May/June
A-Teens is covering Elvis Presley by doing the famous song “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. The song is a part of the Disney blockbuster film, Lilo & Stitch which hits theaters June 21st.

June 18th
The New Album, “Pop Till You Drop!” hits the stores in USA. The album debuts at number #45 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart and their single reached the pole position on the Radio Disney Chart.

July
“Floorfiller” is released in North America.

August
“Floorfiller” is released in South America.

August-September
A-Teens hits the road again. “A-Teens/ Baha Men Summer Tour”. A thirty-date tour with Baha Men, LMNT and Play.

September 2nd
“Can’t Help Falling In Love” is released in Sweden.

October 14th
“Floorfiller” is released in Sweden. It debuts as number #5 on the Swedish charts.

November
“Pop ‘Til You Drop!” is released in several Latin American countries, including Mexico, which the band travels to for promotion. As a part of the promotion they do a show for the King and Queen of Sweden and the president of Mexico.

2003

January 27th
“New Arrival”, the European version of “Pop ‘Til You Drop!”, with a new cover and some new songs, is released in Sweden.

January
Promotion in Germany and Sweden for “New Arrival”.

February
A-Teens travels to Cuba to record the video of “A perfect Match”.

March
Tour in Scandinavia.

March/May
“A perfect Match” is released in Sweden on March 17th, and in Germany on May 5th.

May-August
A-Teens signs a promotional deal to promote “Popdrinks” in Sweden, with the song “Bounce With Me”. They do 6 meet and greets in Sweden as a part of the promotion.

June/August
A-Teens does several performances around Sweden, such as Sommarstad Gotland, Pride, Okejdagen, a concert in Örebro and the Popdrinks concert. The song “Let Your Heart Do All The Talking” is released to Swedish radio. The song was never released as a single.

September/November
A-Teens does several events in Sweden, such as Faddergalan, Combo, 45 minutes and a performance in Kungstrådgården.

2004

April 28th
A-Teens first single from the new album, a cover of Nick Kamen’s “I Promised Myself” is released.

May 12th
A-Teens album “Greatest Hits” is released in Sweden.
The album was just released in selected European countries, Asia and Latin America. It did not receive a U.S. release.

May/June/July
A-Teens does several performances, signings and concerts around Sweden as a part of the promotion for “Greatest Hits”.

July 22nd
A-Teens is having their last performance as a group at Gutekällaren, Visby, Sweden.
